Naughty Cats

#Naughty Cats #Crossstitch : I was too busy with my other food blogs. So I haven't updated here for a very long long time. But I never stopped doing cross stitch works.
This work has been finished by March 2013.

There are many types of cross stitches. This counted cross stitch is done on Bombay Dyeing Matty cloth.
Things Required :
Matty cloth
Anchor Skeins
Needle
Scissors
Embroidery ring
The design layout

First mark the center of the cloth.
Start working from center to top and center to bottom.
It is also advisable to stitch with dark colors first.
Then go to lighter shades and white color.

The cloth has to be tightly fit on to an embroidery ring.
Usually the skeins have six threads together.
I used two threads throughout this design.

After finishing the work wash in soap water.
Dry in the Sun. Then neatly iron it with hot iron box.

I have not yet stitched border. I have to make borders to this work.

Cross Stitch - Daffodil Lady

Hi All
My Daughter started this cross stitch work when we were at Thiruvananthapuram.
We both did it whenever we were free and during long train journeys.
I finished it last year itself. But posting here now only. After giving lining and border once again I will try to post it.

Cross stitch is done on countable even weave cloth called Aida cloth. There are many types of stitches made on this cloth. Common one is doing X type stitches.
First the design has to be selected. After selecting design the next thing to do is to find out the thread colors required for making the chosen design.
The threads have color codes to denote each shade.
The threads are available in Anchor brand and another one is DMC.
In India Anchor threads are generally available.
The threads come in skeins of 8 mts long and with 6 strands.
The design has to be done with 2 or 3 strands and the number of strands needed depends on the size of the Aida cloth holes.

The number of holes for the design is counted and mark is made along the length and breadth of the cloth.
The design is generally started from the center and move outwards.
The completion of a cross stitch design depends on the time spent on it and the size of the design.

Thread Work - Peacock - Blue

Things needed :
Old invitation card
needle size 10 or 11
embroidery  silk thread
syringe or pins to make holes on card
scissor
thermacole
measuring scale
pencil
compass to draw circles

I have taken an invitation card and used the wrong side to do this embroidery.
First measured the length and breadth of the card using a scale.
Margins are drawn using a scale and pencil.

Then fixed the center point of the card.

I made this peacock sketch from an embroidery work. Then did the thread work on the card.

I pricked holes over the card by keeping it on a thermacol sheet using a syringe.
The holes has to be carefully made at regular intervals along the drawing line.
I have used machine embroidery silk thread and size 10 needle.
Done the stitching with single thread only.
The tension to be uniform to get desired result.
